Fall 2024 Newsletter
Fall 2024 Newsletter
Hello climbers! It is finally Send-tember (although these consistently high 20-degree days are not ideal send temps). We hope you’ve been enjoying the Fall season and spending time outside. Let’s get into some updates from the OAC!
Old Baldy Portapotty
A huge thanks to OAC Board member Mike Makischuk for coordinating the installation of a portapotty at Old Baldy Conservation Area in the Beaver Valley. This is the second portapotty installed by the OAC within the Beaver Valley, complementing the one already present at Metcalfe Rock. OAC Annual Membership fees provide the OAC funding to invest in the community while aligning the OAC with the core environmental values that Conservation Areas have been established to protect. Could your local crag benefit from a similar investment? Let us know!

Beaver Valley Climbing Festival
On August 16th, the OAC hosted the 2024 edition of the Beaver Valley Climbing Festival! The event was a huge success, and the OAC would like to thank all those who attended and our hard-working volunteers. Despite the rain, the stoke remained high throughout the weekend - delicious food, great clinics and fantastic top rope volunteers from the ACC made the return of the BVCF one to remember! Thank you to the event sponsors for providing epic prizes for the raffle, particularly La Sportiva as our headline sponsor! Keep an eye out for a save-the-date for the 2025 BVCF!

Annual General Meeting
The OAC’s Annual General Meeting is just around the corner! The AGM will occur on November 7th at 7pm in a Zoom meeting. This is a key event for the organization where we’ll talk about this year’s achievements, share goals for the new year, and hear from regional representatives from Ottawa, Sudbury, Thunder Bay and across the Niagara Escarpment. An invitation will be sent to all OAC members, so please ensure you have a membership to receive the email! Look out for that invite in your inbox shortly!
As always, the AGM will also feature the election of new Board members to the OAC. If you are interested in serving, please email info@ontarioallianceofclimbers.com. No prior Board of Directors experience is required.
Call for Photos for the Calendar
Can you believe it is almost 2025? You know what that means—a new OAC calendar! Every year, we call on Ontario photographers to send over their photos of people climbing on Ontario rock, and each month will display a different picture. If you have a photo you would like to feature in the 2025 OAC Calendar, submit it via email to submissions@ontarioallianceofclimbers.com.
That’s all from us for now! As we enter the fall season, we hope cooler temperatures and stickier rock are on their way. Thanks for reading this month’s newsletter, and catch you later!
